Leadership Tip of the Month: Mentally Master Chaos

In an increasingly global, volatile and chaotic business landscape, thriving as a leader requires the mental agility to deal with change and uncertainty:

  1. Reframe your thoughts. Thoughts control your actions and emotions. When a negative thought enters your mind, label it as such and immediately replace it with a positive one.
  2. Speak more positively. Minimize your use of contractions like "can't," "won't" and "don't" from your vocabulary. Changing your language disciplines your brain to look for the positive in everything -- especially when things are uncertain.
  3. Practice flexible thinking. One of your most valuable assets as a leader is to create something entirely new. Be willing to abandon old notions and established practices that don't serve you well. Embrace different viewpoints and explore multiple approaches to achieving a goal.
